White-columned mansions in the American south aren’t exactly rare, but one stands above the rest.
Elvis Presley purchased 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee — better known as Graceland — in 1957 after neighbors at his previous residence complained about the journalists and fans that were constantly camped outside of his house. He died in the estate 35 years ago tomorrow (August 16th) and his funeral was held at Graceland two days later. Approximately 80,000 people lined the processional route to Forest Hill Cemetery where Presley was buried next to his mother.
